CB Jimmy Smith – Colorado

Smith is the prototypical size that NFL teams covet and is an extremely tall cornerback with excellent athleticism especially for a man his size. Smith hasn’t received the hype of Peterson or Amukamara but is every bit as good as them and has more upside because of his combination of size, speed, ball skills and toughness. He’s a smart and instinctive defender who reads and reacts quickly to the play and has the ability to fly up the field, avoid blockers and make the tackle after the catch. He’s able to read the pass well and has the speed to run with the receiver off the line of scrimmage without losing a step and can stay on his hip all over the field. He has the ability to stay with any receiver on deep routes and displays lockdown speed, especially for a 6’2 cornerback. He has the ability to break up passes without committing a penalty and displays necessary hustle and elite speed to chase down the receiver across and down the field to save touchdowns. Look for Smith to excel at the NFL combine and fly up NFL draft boards.
